Straw Art for Toddlers

Straw Heart Card

This little art project was my daughter’s idea.  I bought brightly colored straws and had plans to create cutesy straw necklaces with them.  My daughter had other plans.  As I was cutting them (and chasing them all over the place because it’s impossible to cut them without them jumping ten feet!) she told me that she wanted to glue them to paper.  I said sure!  Then she suggested making them into a shape.

I tried to keep the colors and their lengths consistent with one another (because my daughter is a touch OCD) but that’s not necessary!

Heart drawing

First, she drew her heart (heart balloon if we’re getting technical).  I might add, that this is her first heart that looks like a heart.  Bravo!

Then the glue!

Straw ArtFinally, the fine motor skill practice fun part of adding the straws to the glue.

Easy peasy!  What toddler crafts have you completed recently?  I love new ideas!

My daughter and I played outside with chalk for hours yesterday and we had so much fun!  {Check out our chalk whale if you missed him.}  She absolutely loves to draw with chalk and if it’s possible I think I enjoy it even more than she does!  I hope this inspires you to get outside and enjoy the sunshine.  Here’s our favorite sidewalk chalk: Crayola Washable Sidewalk Chalk.

What’s your favorite family-friendly outdoor activity?

Chalk Drawings for Kids – Whale

One item on my family’s summer bucket list is to play outdoors with sidewalk chalk.  It’s great for motor skills, imagination, and it gets us out of the house.  Check out this cute whale my daughter and I did this afternoon!  It’s in dedication to my daughter’s new favorite song, Willie was a Whale by Justin Roberts {We love all of his music for kids!}.

I hope this is the first of many chalk drawings this summer so stay connected for other doable ideas!
