My Dearest Daughter,
Today is the day that I celebrate you. One of many actually. I celebrate you, not because you’re a mom yet but because it was you who first made me a mom, only four short years ago!
I’ve always thought it would be great to have a daughter. Some reasons were superficial, like because little girls are fun to dress up…and they are, you are absolutely adorable! Some were selfish, for instance I thought a little girl would be easier to raise because I had once walked through the shoes of a little girl. Are little girl’s easier to raise? The data on that is inconclusive but being a little wiser than I once was I’m going to guess not. Some reasons were good ones, for example I loved the relationship that my mom and I had and wanted to have that with my daughter. I still love this reason!
I don’t want to imply that your grandmother and I never had disagreements because we did. We didn’t see eye to eye on several things but we had a special bond. A special, indescribable, unbreakable bond, that I hope you and I are forming now.
Growing up I often heard that I looked just like my mom. That always made me smile because in my eyes there was no one prettier.
Now whenever I post a picture of us on social media I hear the same responses and it makes my heart well up inside. You’re like me in so many ways. I notice it every day.
For instance, the way you go from being incredibly shy to being a social butterfly in an instant and back again. I’m the same way, my personality changes with my moods and whom I’m around.
The way you love anything girly, pink, lacy, or frilly. I may have had some influence on that. 🙂
The way you know how to enjoy chocolate.
The way you cry when your Daddy scolds you just by looking at you. I hear I was the same way.
The way you like to wear dresses and twirl in them. I never understood why more girls didn’t take advantage of this. Plus, they poof out when you stand on a vent!
The way that you know a little leopard print can still be classy. 😉
The way you love animals and want to be surrounded by them constantly. I promise, I’m trying to work on your Daddy to get a new dog but I’ll let you in on a little secret…you have more sway with him on this than I do. 😉
The way you smile when a camera appears. You may not want to have your picture taken but you would rather have a picture of you smiling than not. 🙂
The way you love anything with crafts or drawing.
The way you enjoy accessorizing.
The way you love being silly. I must admit, your silly faces are better than mine.
The way you love being in the water.
The way you love and have always loved Minnie Mouse. As I look over the pictures in this letter (and the many pictures I spent scrolling through on my computer to find ones to add to this letter) one person was always sneaking her way into the picture, Miss Minnie Mouse.
I recently bought you a new Minnie Mouse bedding set from Walmart to help you have something new and special as you got situated with your new room in our new house.
As it turns out Minnie is a great character to bond over, she’s pretty, she knows how to accessorize, knows how to wear polka dots, and she loves puppies and the color pink. She’s just like you! And you’re just like me. You’re my little #MinnieMe.
As you grow older I hope we’ll continue to find things to bond over. Maybe it will be make-up, planting a garden (What? I could learn! Maybe…), shopping, or anything. I just want to keep our relationship strong.
Please know that no matter what, I’ll always be here for you, cheering you on. Being ecstatic when you learn how to do something new (like when you learned how to ride your bike last week!!). Being broken hearted when you come to me sad. Life will take some unexpected curves so be prepared but know that I’m always here. I’m here if you need anyone to count on, rely on, fall back on. Simply know that someone will always be here. No matter what.
Thank you for giving me the most precious gift, that of being a mommy. As I tell you often, it’s the best job in the world!
All my love,
Mom

I am blessed and oh so luck to have three wonderful sons and a beautiful daughter. Although there were a few rough times we basically got thru life in a very great relationship. She was always a girly girl, very much like her god mother – my only sister! Life is so great being a mom and I now have 6 precious grand children, another incredible blessing! I love the letter you wrote to your daughter. It will be such a great souvenir for her. I do not know enough about the computer to do the same. Thanks for sharing such a great blog!
