Meal planning, grocery shopping, dropping kids to and from school, teaching kids, being the mom of the house means that you are always busy. Always. When there’s a need for mom at every moment, it’s no wonder moms are searching out shortcuts. Every mom needs to learn a few simple shortcuts to make their chaotic days easier. Today, I am featuring 5 simply shortcuts for moms so that you can feel a bit more relaxed while juggling everything.
Think Smaller Sizes
While you do want to make sure that your family is eating healthy, you don’t have to go all out. Think small proteins such as wheat toast, eggs and smaller cubes of meat. If you cook meat for dinner, take a hint from the Chinese restaurants, smaller size meat cooks faster. You are still feeding the family healthy but ensuring the meal cooks faster by cubing it up in smaller pieces.
Delegate Chores
This is a no-brainer, when you are raising kids they should have some responsibilities too. The older the kids get, the more you can delegate. Whether you believe in paying for chores or not, each kid should have some responsibility. You can easily lessen your load by delegating chores to other family members so you don’t have so many little things to focus on. Right now my kids are dust mopping the floor. No, it won’t be perfect (and I might touch it up when they’re napping and can’t see me) but they’re learning how to do it better and better each time.
Prepackaged Meals
Let go of having to cook from scratch every single night of the week. When school and work are in session, there’s not much time to be a chef in your own kitchen. Take a few hours every Sunday to prepare meals ahead of time. This involves looking up freezer meals, getting the ingredients and placing them together in the freezer within separate freezer storage bags to pull out and cook during the week. My recent favorite go-to isn’t a full meal but is a bunch of grilled and seasoned chicken that my husband makes for me. We slice it in baggies and I pull it out to put on top of salad’s for lunch and sometimes dinner. It’s easy, cost effective, and gets my family eating more salads!
Stock Up on Favorites
There’s no end to the way convenience store trips can suck up time as well as money. Try stocking up to ensure you always have an extra on hand for the most used products in your home. Shampoo, toilet paper, conditioner, soap, air filters etc. are all items that you should have a stockpile of somewhere to ensure you never have to run last minute to the convenience store or worse, to the grocery store that could be miles away. My favorite is having an Amazon Subscribe & Save subscription for these things and having just a few extra on hand in case we go through something faster than usual. My favorites are Mrs.Meyer’s hand soap refill, Kiss Me Honey lip balm, Charmin, Bounty, Colgate, and filters for our refrigerator and air vents.
Say No Often
Start to fall in love with the word no. (I’m still working on this…so much so that I hate to even mention it. It’s important though, even if it is a constant struggle. One day it will get easier…I hope…) It’s okay and sometimes necessary to say no to the little things that your kids or friends are asking you to do. For example, if you have a kid who constantly yells for you to get something for them when they are capable, make them do it. (This one isn’t hard for me. ha) Let go of trying to be everything for everyone and learn to say no when you can. Remember, just because you CAN do everything doesn’t mean you SHOULD, and you certainly can’t do it all at the same time. It’s okay to say no to some things so you can say yes to others. Priorities and balance, the hardest words in life.
These shortcuts are sure-fire ways to help you start getting your life back in gear with less chaos and stress. Be sure to follow these shortcuts in a way that switches up your day to day life so they become part of your routine.
