Have you ever heard of NMEDA and the services their members provide? I hadn’t either until just recently. NMEDA stands for the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association and they work to provide the best solutions for increased mobility. Basically they are the best source for wheelchair accessible vehicles and mobility equipment. I’m very blessed that I haven’t had to struggle with a disability that limits my mobility. I don’t know what it’s like to be dependent upon someone to help with daily tasks. However, I have had people in my life who have and have seen first hand the struggle with limited mobility. Simple things like taking walks around the block or running a quick errand take so much more effort. I can definitely appreciate the NMEDA and all the good they do for people.
Having a wheelchair accessible vehicle can give people the opportunity to get their life back. A girl I went to school work was even able to drive a car without the use of her legs. Technology is incredible these days! The NMEDA starts with their Quality Assurance Program (QAP) which guarantees you a personal accredited dealer who will give an in-person evaluation, has undergone special training of the equipment, they provide 24-hour local emergency roadside services and so much more! If you have a mobility challenge, they will give you the attention and support you deserve. They offer wheelchair ramps, hand controls and steering aids (like my friend has), transfer seats, wheelchairs securement, scooter lifts, and special acceleration and breaking solutions for adaptive vehicles. I could go on listing what all they offer but the short of it is, if you need it, they probably have it!
To celebrate National Mobility Awareness Month many vehicles are being given away! If you have someone who would make a great recipient of the prize go ahead them during the promotion. You can also nominate yourself! Entries are being accepted on April 20 – May 31, 2016, voting for your favorite Local Hero is open May 1 – 31, 2016. The website is MobilityAwarenessMonth.com.
My son goes to a speech therapist once a week for his delay in eating. His therapist’s office is located inside of a rehab building where we see people of all ages come in with different disabilities and challenges. It’s a great opportunity to point out to my daughter how God made everyone different and it’s a good reminder to me to be thankful for all of the blessings I take for granted each day.

I am very close to needing a wheelchair full time. It’s good to know that there are accessible vehicles available.

This is so important for so many! I think it’s great, and I think more need to get on board with something like this in more vehicles! So wonderful.

I love that NMeda is giving everyone a chance to drive or be driven despite their disabilities or equipment. It is so sad to think some feel so confined to just their wheelchair.
