Innocence, Honesty, and Sprout Organic Baby Food

Kids on Firetruck

My grandmother and great aunt are visiting me this week.  We’ve had so much fun together!  I was very close to them when I was growing up and I cherish any time my kids can spend with them.  Oh, how I wish they didn’t live so far away!  Today, we all went shopping.  My daughter’s favorite part of shopping with my family is the quarter rides.  I never buy the rides for them…because my grandmother taught me better than to waste money on such things…but apparently, she has forgotten this. 🙂  My daughter has enjoyed their generosity for a few years but this was my son’s first trip to this store.  Check out his face in this picture!  He’s overjoyed and they didn’t even add the quarters yet!

I hope my kid’s will always be so innocent and enjoy the simple, pure, and little things in life.

I love pure and simple things.  Books.  Sunshine.  Fruit.  Organic food.  We’re not a strictly organic family, but I do enjoy knowing that family is eating wholesomely. I heard about Sprout’s Organic Food years ago before I had kids and checked into it.  From what I read I was hooked.  Natural, pure, ingredients.  I wanted this for my kids.  Today we were running low on baby food so I headed to Harris Teeter to grab some more Sprout pouches.  Harris Teeter is one of Sprout’s retailers, so if you head out to Wal-Mart you sadly won’t find it there. It’s worth the special trip for me because 1) Harris Teeter has amazing sushi and 2) because caring for my family is essential.  Besides, their shopping cards are a-maz-ing!  Build in cup holders – you know they added those for moms who are juggling multiple kids while simultaneously sipping something caffeinated, shopping, and preparing a week’s worth of menus in her head!

Harris Teeter

I went to the baby food section and found my favorite baby food there…the holy grail of baby food, some might say.  It was easy to locate.

Sprout Organic Baby Food

Sprout touts (did you like that intentional rhyme?) USDA certified organic ingredients and non GMO. The flavor names are honest because they actually match the ingredients lists. Shocker. And it’s the only baby and toddler food brand that doesn’t use acid preservatives that can upset baby’s system.  Which is huge for me since my sweet son is allergic to so much and I don’t want food to adversely affect him in any way. Also, A biggie for me – the packaging is free from BPA. I hate the stuff.Sprout Baby Food

Free Sam’s Club Membership to New or Pregnant Moms!

Sams Club

Sam’s Club is currently offering free annual membership to new or pregnant moms.

To get this deal you need to drive to your local Sam’s Club or be extremely patient while waiting on the phone for them.  Some people are getting through and some are getting busy signals. You can read more about it here, and decide if it’s worth trying for you.

Just call 888-746-7726 and let them know you are calling to take advantage of the new-mom membership offer.  Once you sign up, they will give you a membership number. Simply take that number to your local Sam’s Club to get your membership card which you can then use for a full year.  Sweet deal, right!?

When I called I tried entering 0 and then 0 and that gave me a busy signal.  I entered 2 and then 3 and I waited on hold for 9 minutes before someone answered.  They only asked for my name, phone number, email, and address.

Good luck, our family loves Sam’s Club!

I am a WaterWipes Ambassador

I participated in an Ambassador Activation on behalf of Influence Central for WaterWipes. I received product samples to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

Baby Boy

Besides myself, every member of my house has allergies.  Okay, I’m allergic to pollen and dust but that’s it.  Everyone else has to have special lotions, laundry detergent, and has to avoid certain foods.  My daughter could only use a certain brand of baby wipes so I had to give away all others that I was gifted.  My son was the same way, only one brand of wipes would do or he would break out.  Even with these ultra sensitive wipes would still break out their faces.  I’ve told my husband for years now that I wish a company would just make water wipes, wipes with just water.  He suggested that I make my own with paper towels but I knew they wouldn’t have the same softness that wipes had.  I even went so far as to dry out a pack of baby wipes and later add water to them…but as you probably guessed, that didn’t work.  The chemicals were still in the wipes.

Guess what, ya’ll?  A company DID MAKE WATER WIPES and they call them just that, WaterWipes.  WaterWipes is a chemical free baby wipe that contains only TWO ingredients.  99.9% purified Irish water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract.  When I found out I bought a big old box of them right away and I haven’t looked back.  They are perfect for cleaning messy faces (without breaking them out – woo!), cleaning grimy high chairs, and so much more!  I love them!  Seriously, if you know me in real life, you know you’ve already heard about these at least once by now.  Because I have mad love for these things I was chosen to be a WaterWipes Ambassador and I couldn’t be more pleased.  Be on the lookout for more mentions of WaterWipes on my blog over the next few months.

WaterWipes

In addition to my son’s sensitive skin allergies he’s also allergic to dairy and soy.  Which you may not realize is in every food that exists….kidding, but only slightly.  On top of allergies, he has an aversion to eating and will soon be seeing two therapists on a weekly basis to help him eat better.  Long story short, I need to make eating as fun as possible.  WaterWipes help me do that by cleaning him up without having to give him a bath directly afterward (three times a day) or wipe him down with a harsh wet paper towel.  I keep a pack of WaterWipes handy by our high chair at home and never leave home without a pack in my diaper bag.

Because I already had a stockpile of another brand I continued using the sensitive baby brand wipes for my lil one’s diaper changes.  That is, until he had a stomach bug that lasted 9 days.  I know what you’re thinking!  Bless his little heart, right?  It was bad, ya’ll.  🙁  He would cringe when I used the other wipes.  Then it dawned on me, I should use the WaterWipes!  They are wipes after all!  I felt like an idiot but I shook it off and grabbed a pack of the WaterWipes.  Sufficient to say, he liked the change.  Now I only have to keep one pack of wipes in my diaper bag.  One terrific pack of wipes that doesn’t contain nasty chemicals.  If you have a little one or use baby wipes for anything check out WaterWipes!

For more information on WaterWipes visit WaterWipes.com.  You can also follow WaterWipes on FacebookTwitter (#WaterWipes), Pinterest, & Instagram.

Do More With Levana Keera 2 Camera Video Monitor

This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Levana. The opinions and text are all mine.

Maybe I’m a helicopter mom but I’m okay with that.  I want to know at all times if my sweet cherubs are safe.  It’s hard to take a nap myself if I think my oldest is climbing the curtains in her room.  Okay, okay, so a nap is far fetched really but it’s hard to focus on anything if I constantly have my ears peeled for noises.  That’s why I’m glad the Levana Keera 2 Camera Video Monitor came into my life.

Levana

Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t gone without a monitor up to this point…but this one is just, well, better!  I went exactly one day without a baby monitor with my first and out to the store I went my husband went.

The Keera digital baby monitor is so practical. The actual meaning of the name Keera means “dark.” It get’s this name because it can monitor even in the dark… up to 12 ft distance in night vision. The battery is also really helpful because it last 24 hours (unlike my other one *cough*cough*).  I love that I can actually see the baby sleeping or playing quietly in the crib and not just hear him.  It’s so much more comforting to see what position he’s in or what he’s playing with. SO. COMFORTING!  …and if I’m honest, it’s nice to check and see what in the world he’s doing sometimes when it sounds like grown men are upstairs duking it out.  He’s usually kicking the wall but it’s comforting to know he’s safe and hasn’t managed to climb out of his crib.  It’s truly remarkable how much noise those little feet can make!

The Keera 2 is digital and it took only moments to learn how to navigate around.  Oh and the home screen is customizable!  It’s the little things that make me happy.

This monitor has what’s called a PEEP mode, so when your kid makes a “peep” the monitor leaves sleep mode and turns on. This is really great when I’m busy or sleeping myself. Plus, it will stay in PEEP mode for 10 hours straight without a charge.  All night!  I couldn’t do that with my other monitor.

OK – stop traffic and pay attention.  This thing has a recording/photo feature!!!  I’ve taken numerous pictures of my old monitor and sent it to my husband and work.  With this monitor I don’t have to do that!  It has room for an SD card that I can save photos and videos too.  Never again will I miss out on those cute morning moments when they wake up.  I can record them!  I’m in love with this monitor for this reason alone.

Here’s a video of my daughter showing you the play back video feature.

I can also talk to my baby when he’s upset…or to tell my preschooler that I’ll be there in a minute. This thing is a walky-talky too. It’s lovely.

Probably my second favorite feature (second only to the recording feature) is the mute function. Honestly, I don’t want to hear every tummy gurgle when the kid’s sleeping. Am I right, or am I right?  Okay, maybe the first month I did but after that, nah.  The mommy screen has a color coded indicator that tells me if the Jr. is at low volume (perhaps singing to himself) or on super scream. Very convenient for date nights.

I love this thing. It will even play the baby a lullaby if I tell it to.

Levana’s tagline is “Do More Knowing Your Child Is Safe.”  I can rest better and do more when I know my kiddos are safe.  Here’s a list of things I can do when I know my babies are out of harms way.

1. Talk to ya’ll – aka blogging.

2. Take a bath – yes, everyone’s happy about that!

3. Cleaning – quietly, of course.

4. Reading – even outside if I want because I can take my monitor with me!

You can enter to win one here or if you don’t want to chance the odds you can buy the Levana Keera 2 for yourself or as a gift for any mom with youngin’s at home!

It’s on sale now (click here) for only $149.99 (from $219.99) but I don’t know how long the sale will last.  You can also follow Levana on Facebook.

How I Told My Husband I Was Pregnant – First Response

I participated in a Influencer Activation on behalf of Influence Central for First Response. I received product samples as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

I can still remember it like it was yesterday!!!  “I know I am, I just know I am” replaced in my head as I raced through the aisles at Target.  I grabbed the pink box and headed to the baby section, grabbed a gender neutral onesie that said ” I love Daddy,” I picked up a pacifier and teether for good measure and rushed for the checkout.  I knew I was pregnant and I couldn’t wait to get home and pee on that stick.

Two Pink Lines

TWO PINK LINES!!!

I knew it!!  My nausea gave it away early but I still elated to see those pink lines to confirm that there was more than butterflies in my tummy.

Yes, that’s a picture of my pregnancy test that I peed on those handful of years ago.  It seems silly to keep it but it represents such a special time in my life I hate to throw it away so I’ll keep it in it’s box tucked away in the back of my bathroom cabinet a while longer.

First Response

When my husband came home from work I had the receipt laying on the table with the pregnancy test beside it.  It was so much fun to see his face light up, I can picture it like it was yesterday.

First Response was my go to brand because it’s a name I trust….and I don’t have to pee in a cup (which is 100% harder than a stick) like some other brands have and use a suction thing transfer a few drops over.  First Response has even better features now than when I last used them!  They now have great Comfort Sure Design features implemented.  They have a curved shape to fit in your hand easier, the handle is longer, and the tip is 50% wider.  Win-win!

First Response Early Detection Pregnancy tests are easy to read and give results in 3 minutes (or less in my experiences) with over 99% accuracy from the day of the expected period.  It detects pregnancy as early as 6 days before the day of your missed period.  You can take it anytime of day, no need to use it first thing in the morning. It is FDA approved and it is designed to detect all relevant forms of urinary hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) throughout pregnancy.

If you need to know and want quick, reliable results you can look for First Response Early Detection Pregnancy tests at all major drugstores, mass and grocery stores (they retail for $8.99 – $15.99).

15 Must Haves for Beach Travels With a Baby

Beach Baby Packing List

Summer is coming soon and before I know it will be time to head to the beach. When our family went to the beach the year before last, I scoured the internet for a list of helpful things to bring to the beach when you have small kids. The results I found were a little underwhelming. I turned to my friends who have been there and done that with youngins and they gave me a ton of great tips. Tips that I think the world should know! Tips that will save you from reading 1,001 Amazon beach blanket reviews and 500 beach-packing lists reminding you to pack sunscreen. Before I share my must-have list with you I want you to know that affiliate links are included this post and as always that doesn’t sway my opinion in the least.  Without further ado, my fellow beach-loving friend, I want to present you with the top fifteen things that I will always find room in my suitcase for.

Coppertone Water Babies

1. Sunscreen – Okay, I know I told you that I hated seeing sunscreen on a beach trip packing list but let me just get it out of the way and say it, bring sunscreen. Bring baby sunscreen for babies and adult sunscreen for adults…unless they want to use the baby sunscreen too which is probably okay. Last summer, I used my off brand anti-aging sunscreen on my little one to save time. Big no-no. She broke out in a horrible rash and I felt awful about it. From now on I’m sticking with Coppertone Water Babies for both of my little ones. If you use a spray sunscreen don’t forget to have your kids hold their breath while you apply and make sure to read the can and rub it in if the directions tell you too. A friend of mine applied it on her husband without reading it and rubbing it in and he left the beach looking like a lobster. Just a reminder. 🙂  Update: Lately, I’ve been using one of these three sunscreens for my sweet sensitive kiddos. BabyGanics, Badger, and California Baby. (Click here for the 2018 EWG Sunscreen recommendations.)

Beach Blanket

2. Beach blanket – This is one that I have researched thoroughly. You’re welcome. 🙂 This blanket from Amazon is incredible. I use it for every picnic I go to and I used it just last night when playing with my son in the yard while my daughter and husband played ball. It’s incredibly light weight, think very thin parachute material. Because it’s so thin it stays cool, dries quickly, folds compactly, and it doesn’t hold ANY sand. It had loops on the four corners to nail a stake if you want AND it has pouches if you’d rather fill each corner with sand to hold it in place. We chose to fill a few corners with sand and lay our belongings on the others and it worked fine. I LOVE this blanket! If you have kids and spend time outdoors on the ground, you should get one.

Puddle Jumper

3. Puddle JumperThe Puddle Jumper is a Coast Guard approved flotation device for kids. Unlike the scratchy inflatable wings or a regular bulky life jacket the Puddle Jumper allows kids to move about freely while swimming. I’m so thankful that a friend recommended this to me.  The year before last, I just borrowed one for our trip but this year I’ve bought our own.  The Puddle Jumper is fabulous because it doesn’t require time to blow it up and it gives me peace of mind as my little darling is learning to navigate her way through the water. Not to mention, the designs they have are stinking cute! I haven’t met a mom yet who doesn’t love these!

4 . Sand mittThis little product is genius, ya’ll! It’s a terrycloth mitt that has powder inside. You pat it and brush it on your legs and arms to remove any pesky sand. It works so well! I bought mine on Amazon for around $10 and the reviews say it will only last one summer. It’s cheap enough and handy enough that I don’t mind buying a new one every year but I have enough powder in mine for another beach trip or two! A bottle of baby powder and a sand free towel would probably work well too but I’m a little too paranoid about kids inhaling the powder to give it a try.

Janie and Jack Swimsuit and cap

5 – Sun hat with strap – Great for kiddos and adults too. Three of my favorite brands (same company) Crazy 8, Gymboree, and Janie & Jack have adorable hats that match their swimming suits and trunks. They even have cute swimming caps too! Oh, and I pack two swimsuits per child so one can dry off while the other one is being worn. No one likes to put on a damp suit.

Stride Rite Water Shoes

6. Water shoes – I can’t praise these Stride Rite shoes enough. (Link to pink ones, link to blue ones pictured above) They are expensive but awesome! They’re great all summer long and make fabulous water shoes. I just gave my sister-in-law my old pair and plan on purchasing a new set for each of my kiddos. You can get these shoes wet, even wear them in the kiddy pool and they’ll still be comfortable to wear day after day.

Beach Bag

7 . Good beach bag – With all this loot you’ll be carrying to the beach, pool, and back it’s important to have a bag with many compartments and ideally have a shoulder strap. I’m still on the look out for a really good one so if you know of one you’ll have to let me know.  I have my eye on this one on Amazon that’s less than $22 shipped but I’d love one with a shoulder strap.

8. Waterproof camera/filterA waterproof camera is on my wish list for the beach this year. Before I had to take pictures from far away with my dslr because I was afraid to get water on it. I did find the addition of a camera lens filter to be handy for keeping possible sand off of the lens of my camera. It gave me peace of mind if nothing else. Lenses are expensive and the filter I bought was less than $10 dollars on Amazon.

Bath Mat

9. Cheap bath mat – My sister-in-law taught me this trick and I am very grateful. Some people have the mindset that germs are good for kids and they’ll often say, “It’ll build their immune system” and “What doesn’t kill them will make them stronger.” I’m not one of those people. I hate germs and I figure they’ll get enough on their own anyway. I’d hate for my kids to have gotten sick when I could have prevented it, especially at the beach! I digress. I bring a cheap bath mat to use in the hotel’s tub and a few disinfectant wipes for good measure.

10. Sunglasses – This is an easy one to forget but so important for little eyes. I had good luck finding cute ones that stay on at Target, Gymboree, and The Children’s Place before. The ones with the head strap are genius for the ity bity kiddos. (These from Amazon look super cute, like regular sunglasses but with a head strap! Plus, they have matching ones for the parents. You can’t beat that kind of cute, you just can’t!)

11. Umbrella/Sunshade/Money to rent an umbrella – This is a self explanatory one really. Sun=bad, shade=good. Before we knew that my daughter would be petrified of the ocean we planned on renting an umbrella instead of dealing with the hassle of toting it down to the beach and storing it all year long in our home. I’m glad we opted for that since we would have never been able to use it. If you go often though it may be worth your time to search Amazon for a good one.

Beach Toys
12. Beach toys – These can be brought from home or if you buy new ones try to find toys that you can use later at home as well. Little People’s Cinderella and Prince would make a great addition to any sand castle. Plus, if you happen to have a kid like mine who is scared of the ocean these also make great play toys in the pool, bath tub, and hotel room. A small shovel, watering pail (or a reusable food container with holes?), a few molds (or an old butter and sour cream container?) is plenty. Here is the fancier set that I bought and never had a chance to use at the beach. I loved it though because it had it’s own carrying case.

13.Hair ties – Most importantly hair ties that stay in place. There’s nothing quite like redoing a pony tail of wet hair. It might be a good idea to bring a small pair of scissors just in case the hair tie is difficult to remove. My daughter’s hair is thicker now so I have to find a different type of hair tie but for our last trip those small hair rubber bands worked well. You know the ones? They have hundreds in a package.

Hot Tot Spray Conditioner

14.Spray conditioner – All moms of little girls know that tangles are a nightmare. A good leave-in conditioner is a wonderful thing. My favorite is a natural one from a mom-owned company called Hot Tot. I was proud when I saw them air on Shark Tank a while back as they’ve been a favorite in my home for years. The Wet Brush may also be helpful.

15. Ice – Don’t pack this one in your suit case but we’ve found it incredibly helpful to buy a bag of ice right when we get to the beach. Pack a sippy cup of ice in your bag and your little one’s water won’t be boiling when they’re ready for a drink. (Speaking of sippy cups, my FAVORITE straw cups are on sale on Amazon now for under $3 shipped! I’ve told everyone I know with little girls to buy them.)

Now that you have my list, what are the things you can’t go to the beach without?

How to Organize a Baby’s Closet

Organized Nursery Closet

Do you see the picture above?  That top shelf?  Yes, that one.  That’s all my son’s closet came with.  It was painstakingly difficult to try and organize a baby’s closet with one shelf and a bar that was divided every so many inches.  Just thinking about it made my pregnant brain hurt.  Thankfully, after taking a few measurements my dear husband whisked me away to Lowes to buy some shelving. {You can find the same shelving here on Amazon}  A few days later we had shelving in place and oh, how I love it!

My system isn’t fancy.  It’s just a small space with a few inexpensive organizing tools but it works for us.  I numbered the spaces in the closet to help make it easier to go through.

Let’s get started:

  1. A teddy bear – No explanation is really needed for this one.  Looking back, I don’t know why I numbered it. 🙂
  2. Blankets – These are large blankets that I sometimes use to lay down for a little floor play.  It’s soft and because I know it’s clean it gives me piece of mind knowing that he won’t put a stray piece of something in his mouth.
  3. Supplies – This is a basket of extra changing table/bath/diaper bag supplies.  This is where I have my surplus of Aveeno Eczema baby lotion {love that stuff!}, an extra container of my favorite Pampers wipes, my stock of Johnson’s & Johnson’s body wash/shampoo, alcohol free hand sanitizer,  and diaper rash cream, etc.
  4. Toys – This is my go to bin of small toys to play with.  Teethers, rattles, stuffed animals, and lovies all go in here. {I’ve recently been introduced to a Little Giraffe lovie and it is THE best lovie.  If you’re looking for one give Little Giraffe a try}
  5. Pjs – These are the pajamas that currently fit my son.  I like them here because they are easy to grab without having to sort through anything.
  6. Shirts – The left side of his closet holds his dressier buttoned up shirts and polos.  These are the shirts that need to stay neater and are easy to hang.  His onesies and pants are stored in the top drawer of his dresser.  The other drawers of his dresser hold clothes that he hasn’t grown into yet, clothes that he has outgrown, and the bottom dresser drawer holds diapers.
  7. Sweaters – The middle of his closet holds his sweaters in one nice and neat place.
  8. Jackets – The right side of his closet holds his light jackets and fleece pullovers.  I’m excited that it’s getting cooler so he can start wearing these!
  9. Shoes – This basket holds all of his shoes.  Yes, I know, no boys need that many shoes but I have a shoe addiction.  Tiny are just so stinking cute on babies!
  10. Socks – I keep all of his socks in a small basket right beside his shoes so it’s easy to put together his outfits.
  11. Swaddling blankets – We don’t use these very often any more but they were sure handy for a while.  I guess now I can use this space for something else.  Hmmm.
  12. Stroller blankets – Just as we’re slowing down using swaddling blankets we’re starting to use stroller blankets more and more.  This basket holds plenty of them!
  13. There’s no #13 but if you’ll look to the left of #9 you’ll see a small stack of burp cloths.
  14. To the left of #11 you’ll see a stack of spare sheets, crib liners, and changing table covers.
  15. Even further to the left of #11 you’ll see where I have my son’s coats hanging.  I love the extra room the lower rod gives me!

I absolutely adore these hangers.  They are soft, small, nothing slips off of them and they are all the same size.  After having the pink ones work so well for my daughter’s room I bought two more sets in blue for my son’s.

I’m hoping for the floor space underneath the lowest shelf to hold bigger toys one day.

Lastly, we have an extra closet wide stand alone shelf that we’re planning on installing in the top of this closet to make the most of the space we have.

#BabyGotMoves with Pampers – Giveaway Ends 9/13

This review was made possible by Double Duty Divas and Pampers. I was provided the featured product free of charge to facilitate my review, but all opinions are 100% mine.

Pampers Baby Dry

I’m not a morning person, not even a little bit, so it’s important to me that my kids sleep through the night.  If I don’t get enough sleep I’m extra grumpy in the morning and that’s not good for anyone.  Pampers helps my son sleep through the night without waking up wet.

Pampers Size 3

Trust me, I’m not just saying that because Pampers gave me a few diapers {I would never do that!}.  Just last night I put a diaper on him from another brand.  It was my fault;  I ran out of the supply of Pampers on the changing table and was too lazy to go to the closet to get more so I used one of our back up diapers.  Thankfully he didn’t wake up during the night but my poor sweetheart was soaked in pee when he got up. : (  My husband was the one who changed him and he said that he’s never “peed through” like this before. I felt awful.

Pampers Baby Dry diapers keep my little one dry at night and during the day while he’s squirming and wiggling around.  He can’t exactly crawl yet but he can wiggle and roll his way around the living room.  It’s a slow process but he gets where he’s going.  Trust me, epic cuteness!  Lately, he has loved to go over to his sister’s child size piano and stretch up to play it.  It’s adorable!  I’ll have to take a video and show you.

To celebrate dry mornings, Pampers is asking parents to show off their baby’s morning dance routine by uploading videos to Instagram and Facebook using hashtag #BabyGotMoves. Uploaded videos have the chance to appear in a shareable compilation video created by Pampers at the close of the initiative.

Not only that but Pampers is offering YOU the chance to win a #BabyGotMoves Pampers giveaway right here on Embracing Homemaking!
